Installing & upgrading Form2Content

Form2Content can be installed like any other Joomla extension via the Joomla Extension Manager. Download the .zip file from our website and upload it in the Joomla Extension Manager.

Installing sample data

If it is your first time using Form2Content we highly recommend you install the sample data.

After uploading the extension select "Yes I want to install sample data". The sample data includes a Content Type example and corresponding set of Form2Content article templates. Within the template there is Smarty code with explanation to help you get started! You can get to the example template via components >> Form2Content >> Template manager.

Upgrading Form2Content

You can upgrade Form2Content LITE or PRO bij downloading and installing the new version. Please always make a backup first! If there is a Joomla version change it is recommended to first upgrade Joomla and then Form2Content.

NEVER uninstall Form2Content before an upgrade, it will remove ALL your data. We leave NOTHING behind.... as it should be.

Upgrading from Form2Content LITE to PRO

When you like to upgrade to Form2Content PRO you can download the latest package and install it via the Joomla extension manager. It will automatically upgrade your LITE version and all Content Types and article data will remain for further use.

Please note: After upgrading there are many more options available so follow these steps.

  1. Go to the Fields Manager for your content type.
  2. Update fields like category selection (category_field). You can now also hide many fields (like template, language, publishing) from the form.
  3. Save and exit
  4. Go to the Content Type Fields. Again check for extra options for the different fields, especially the Image field.
  5. Save changes and go to the Form2Content Article manager.
  6. Select your articles and BATCH refresh.

Upgrading (migrating) Form2Content from J2.5 to J3.x

Backup first! This upgrade requires you to FIRST upgrade your Joomla version to 3.x. After this is done, download the latest Form2Content version for J3.x and re-install it through the Joomla Extensions Manager. Do not uninstall F2C first!

Where can I find the latest version?

On the Form2Content website. Simply re-download the F2C Lite version or login to the website and re-downloadyour F2C Pro version.
Since F2C Pro for Joomla 2.5/3.x have the same license you will get both installers together in a ZIP format. UNZIP first before installation.

How can I check if I have the latest version?

On your OWN website in the Joomla back-end (administration area) navigate to components >> form2content. At the BOTTOM of the page you will see your Form2Content version and a link to check if it is the latest version.
Otherwise go to the changelog:

Possible issues after upgrading

Error messages

New installations might bring changes to the submission form and F2C source code. If you are using overrides, especially the submission form override turn them off. Always first check if all works in the back-end first. If the front-end is still giving issues also test using the protostar template.

404s after upgrade

When menu parameters are added or changed with an upgrade it is sometimes necessary to edit and save the menu links to the Form2Content component. This way the new parameters are 'filled' and the component is happy again.

Saving (template) issues after moving website

Form2Content (Smarty) uses the /temp folder when creating your Joomla articles. When your website has changed location/domain it is necessary to clear you cache and your temp directory.

Refresh your articles after changes!

In general it is recommended to refresh all your articles after an upgrade or change in location. This way all URLs in the articles are rewritten (very important if you use absolute URLs) and links to images and documents are also (possibly) corrected.

In the back-end go to the F2C Article Manager, select your articles and click on refresh

F2C Cheat-sheet

An overview of all template parameters (placeholders for your form data). These are used in your F2C intro and main template to parse the data from your submission forms into the Joomla article.
